Our Heart:

God’s love might best be found in the home of a parent-carer.

The Brave Love project sees the courage of parents navigating additional needs in family life, and seeks to foster sustained care for them in church communities.

We want to sharpen our understanding of the needs you see for parents with ongoing concern for the well-being of their young people.

NOTE: the scope of the Brave Love project is to foster spiritual care for 'parent-carers' - a parent of a child or children with 'additional needs'. We're specifically concerned for experiences of languishing mental health for the parent, or the child.  These experiences may coincide with neurodiversity, disability, special education needs, or diversity in sexuality or gender.  Our lived experience intersects with some of the above, but not all.  We acknowledge the limitations of our experiences, and welcome the opportunity to expand our perspective!

Hosted by Travis Johnson

(BMin; Grad Cert in Mental Health; Accredited MHFAider®)

After over three decades of community work (as a volunteer, then Christian Pastor, then leader of two youth oriented organisations) Trav — with his wife Pixi — recognise their greatest achievement is learning from and loving their four adult children.  Their landscape for learning has involved walking with their kids through relationship ups and downs, social anxiety, emotional dysregulation, deep grief, gender dysphoria, depression, and suicide ideation.

Trav brings a robust lived experience approach into the learning environments he provides for people seeking to build their mental health literacy and capacity for spiritual care.

×´As a parent, I'm discovering the value of asking what love looks like today.
Not yesterday, where regret resides.
Not tomorrow, where fear threatens me.
What does love look like today?
My commitment to being present to my person is what makes my love brave.×´
