Reinstatement
When I worked with the electricity authority - back before privatisation and I was a government employee - one of the familiar terms was ‘reinstatement’.
It’s a road construction term.

We tend to try and fill the holes in our lives, pretending like they never happened - is there a different way ​to think about them?

Prelude
“Well before this flourishing garden, there is a gaping hole.”
It’s hard to entertain any possibility of vegetation from this vantage point.
The ground gives way.
Unaware. Driving. Riding. Walking.
Then suddenly, falling — absorbed by an unexpected collapse of dirt and mud and gravel and slush.
Swallowed by a sinkhole.​
